Most Wenge is milled in Africa because it is more cost effective. Boards are usually 1-7′ lengths and 2 1/4″ to 5″ widths as to fit into shipping containers. If long lengths are needed, raw lumber must be milled in the U.S. This can double the price because of waste and labor costs. Also, this species is extremely rare and heavily taxed to support the African economies.
- Clear grade is the only available grade for this species. However, it is available in plain-sawn and quarter-sawn.
